Transition Towns Movement

The Transition Towns Movement is a grassroots network of community-led initiatives that began in Totnes, England in 2005, aimed at building local resilience in response to peak oil, climate change, and economic instability. Communities work collaboratively to reduce carbon footprints and build economic resilience through local food systems, renewable energy projects, local currencies, and skill-sharing networks. The movement emphasizes bottom-up organizing, permaculture principles, and practical solutions that can be adapted to local contexts. With over 1,000 official Transition initiatives worldwide, it demonstrates how communities can self-organize to address global challenges through local action.
